Today’s demonstration was hosted for a northeastern fleet contracting company with a serious need for improved inventory tracking capabilities. My client’s job is to manage a fleet of vehicles with parts that are deployed to job sites where inventory is used to complete service orders per customer request. When we first spoke, my client informed me that they are currently using Excel sheets to track inventory (like so many companies still do) but it was creating several issues. For one, my client’s employees would often remove parts from inventory without recording this adjustment or reporting it to the manager, which was resulting in stock shortages that caught the company completely off-guard. My client also felt that Excel-based tracking was consuming too much of their time on a daily basis for what little result they were receiving, and had noticed it was affecting their other professional responsibilities.
Fleet Contracting Company Problems:
- Missing/mismanaged inventory counts
- Unexpected stock shortages
- Inefficient time management
Over the course of the demonstration it became apparent that the ability to tag transactions to each user account would dramatically increase my client’s ability to keep track of not only what inventory was being taken out, but also who was coming in and removing items from stock. The Wasp Inventory Control solution also provides for emailed alerts to specified user accounts when individual SKU numbers reached pre-set minimum stock levels, another key feature that my client found extremely useful. As we demonstrated the various methods of scanning and transaction, from the simple but powerful add/remove functions, to the move and adjust capabilities for existing inventory I could tell that it was clear to my client that barcoding and scanning would not only improve accountability but also eliminate the time waste that had been plaguing their existing methods.
